Created by the respected Slysoft software company, SlySoft Clone DVD 2 provides customers with many features, but not nearly as many as our top three DVD copy software packages. But, for some, this simple list of features may be more appetizing than the entire buffet list of features in DVDFab or Cloner DVD VII.
SlySoft's Clone DVD gives customers what they want: the ability to copy their original DVDs, including the menus and extra footage, to a blank disc in a few steps.
Although a few steps gets the job done, we were displeased that Clone DVD copy software lacks the ability to copy DVDs to CDs and is less simple to use and understand than the other products we reviewed. Additionally, it does not have CSS decryption capabilities, which requires even more work to download third-party decryption solutions.
With handheld technology being what it is today, and people relying on their Apple and Microsoft products as they do, there should be converter capabilities for these devices included in the software package. Clone DVD does not have this capability. However, SlySoft does offer Clone DVD Mobile which enables you to convert DVD movies to a variety of mobile formats including iPod, Zune, PSP and more.
Feature Set:
Some of the key features that CloneDVD offers in its DVD copy software package include: the ability to copy all the menus, subtitles, bonus features, etc. to two discs or compress it to fit onto one disc, or you can just copy the main movie to a single disc. Clone DVD also: removes region codes, supports multi languages, does not require an ASPI driver, has episodic DVD support and supports Windows 7, Vista and XP configurations. One feature in regard to the configuration options we think is useful is a "visual quality bar" that shows how choosing Windows 7 or Vista will affect your movie quality.
Quality of Copy:
For those just beginning to dabble in DVD burning, CloneDVD is a good jumping off point. Clone DVD's interface is not the most simplistic, but still has some great features and does have simple instructions for various burning steps. Two different tutorials are recent additions to the SlySoft website. The first tutorial is "How to clone ad DVD movie using CloneDVD" and the next is "How to convert a DVD movie using CloneDVD mobile." These tutorial show step-by-step instructions to help beginners get started.
Application Stability:
This DVD copy software product is very easy to install, but, unfortunately, in order for the product installation to even be worth the effort, you must download a CSS decryptor first.
Ease of Use:
After going through the entire DVD copying processes, all you want is a perfect DVD copy. Well, with Clone DVD, that is exactly what you will get. The quality of the DVD copy was superb and it only took an hour to complete.
Ease of Installation:
We did not encounter any problems or errors when we used this DVD Copy Software.
Summary:
Overall, Slysoft CloneDVD 2 copy software is a good option for copying DVD movies because it does what it says it will do easily, but be sure to compare what it offers with the additional features offered by the other products we reviewed.
