DUP DVD from Guru Inc. is an application to convert your DVD movies (not menus or bonus footage) to a CD to be played in a VCD compatible DVD player or hard drive. You must first decrypt a CSS encrypted movie to your hard drive. Since DUP does not come with a decryptor, you must first find and download one.
Feature Set:
The feature set of DUP-DVD is very limited. It only converts and burns your DVD movie to CD media. And, you can't even keep the menus or bonus material.
Ease of Use:
It's a little less user-friendly but once you figure it out, it does what it's supposed to. Well, almost. The interface is a little technical and hard to understand. But the process is a simple one. There isn't much Help available and little information about the product is available on the website.
Ease of Installation:
This product is very easy to install; however, we had difficulties getting the program to work. We frequently got error messages when launching the software. After receiving several error messages, we contacted the company and it took more than a week to receive a response.
Quality of Copy:
Since it only converts to a VCD or SVCD format, the quality is not as good as the original DVD.
Program Stability:
This is the second time we've evaluated this software. In our previous review, several years ago using an older version, we experienced difficulties when copying to SVCD format. Currently, we found the software to be extreamly unstable, frequently giving us error messages when upon launch.
Summary:
DUP DVD limits your use to burning DVDs to CDs; thus, significantly decreasing the copy's quality. Additionally, we had many operational difficulties while using this software.
