DVD Copy Software Review
Understanding DVD Technology Part 1
In this video we explain the following DVD copying terms: Ripping, Burning, Decrypting, AACS, CSS, andRegion Codes,
This series of videos is intended to help you understand some of the technical jargon associated with DVD Copy software. In this video we'll cover Ripping, Burning, CCS, AACS and Region codes. Ripping a CD or DVD is the act of extracting the data information from the media onto your computer so you can back up the content. Virtually all store bought movies are encoded with what is known as CSS encryption. CSS stands for Content Scramble System and is the security feature on DVDs to prevent illegal copying. This technology has become somewhat obsolete recently. In response, a newer form of security, the Advanced Access Content System or AACS for short was developed for commercially published Blu-Ray DVDs and Standard Definition discs. Discs with CSS or AACS encryptions cannot be ripped from the disc to your hard drive without some kind of program to unscramble the content. A DVD Copy Program like DVD Cloner V will decrypt this information so you can safely backup your movies and maintain a high quality product. Burning a disc means taking the information on your hard drive to create a CD or DVD through software and hardware on your computer that is playable in a computer drive or on standalone DVD or CD players. DVD copy software usually does the ripping and burning in one step. Something else to be aware of is Region coding. Which is a code stored onto a disc telling the player what part of the world the disc was bought in. The region code for the Americas is 1. If you have bought the disc you are ripping in another part of the world, your DVD copy program will be able to either remove the region coding or apply the appropriate code. Part 2 of this 3 part video series covers DVD types and Formats, Part 3 will help you understand different movie file formats.
