DVD neXt Copy is a simple DVD copy program designed with the novice in mind. When DVD neXt Copy is working properly it produces excellent quality DVD copies; however, we found that DVD neXt copy is a little unstable for our liking, because during our tests it produced at least one unsatisfactory copy.
We chose to evaluate the Xpress version of DVD neXt Copy because its price and features are similar to most of the other software we reviewed; however, DVD neXt COPY does offer a Standard and Pro version, which include additional features like skin options, custom track selection, a virtual drive, support for several languages and portable conversion features.
As a whole DVD neXt copy includes all the features you’d expect from standard DVD copy software. DVD neXt Copy has the ability to remove region codes and restore defective or scratched DVDs automatically. DVD neXt Copy can also burn Dual Layer DVD-9s if your burner supports the media.
However, we would have liked to see DVD neXt Copy include the ability to copy episodic discs and choose specific episodes to keep. We would also like to see DVD neXt Copy include the ability customize our copy with specific bonus features.
DVD neXt Copy does not include a CSS decryptor, you would have to download a third-party program to backup copyrighted DVDs.
DVD neXt copy is extremely easy to use. Everything is plainly labeled and easy to find. You simply choose to keep the entire disk or only copy the main movie, select your source and target and start copying.
One difficulty we had while using DVD neXt Copy is that the software sometimes had a difficult time naming the source correctly. When we would change DVDs in the drive and select “refresh” the DVD source name wouldn’t change. However, the DVD copies usually came out just fine.
We did not have any problems installing DVD neXt Copy.
We used DVD neXt Copy to burn several movies. Most of the time the copy we made was excellent. There were no noticeable differences between DVD neXt Copy’s disk and the original. However, our results with DVD neXt Copy were inconsistent we did have at least one case when the copy did not have sound.
Although DVD neXt Copy has the potential to produce excellent copies it was inconsistent. When DVD neXt Copy worked properly it worked great, but at least one of our copies came out with no sound.
Additionally, we found that if you launch the program without a DVD in the drive the software stops responding and shuts down without a proper warning. The same thing happens if you try to copy an encrypted DVD without starting your external decryptor before launching DVD neXt Copy.
DVD neXt COPY is easy-to-use and produces excellent quality copies, but that is only when it is working at the top of it’s game. In our tests DVD neXt Copy produced at least one coaster.
DVD neXt COPY Xpress is only one of the DVD Copy programs DVDneXtCOPY Inc. produces. They also offer a Standard version that include the ability to build custom tracks, view each title and supports 15 languages. Their Pro version also has the ability to copy your DVDs to iPod, PSP and Zune.
