**DVD X Copy has been discontinued**
At one time our #1 DVD copy product, DVD X Copy by 321 Studios, has since gone out of business. DVD X Copy included a DVD decrypter engine and had the ability to decrypt DVDs then burn them to blank DVD disks. More specifically, it was able to crack the popular CSS (Content Scrambling System) encryption employed by Hollywood studios to prevent DVD copying.
Shortly after the Digital Millennium Copyright Act was passed in 1998, many software products that enabled users to copy copyrighted DVDs were sued by several major Hollywood studios, and in 2004, 321 Studios and their flagship product, DVD X Copy, was officially shut down. Although DVD X Copy is still available on the internet today, it is not supported or manufactured by 321 Studios and it has not been updated since 2004.
Here is a copy of our original review of DVD X Copy by 321 Studios. If you are still interested in a powerful, yet easy to use piece of DVD Copying software that will decrypt and burn your DVDs, see our review of DVD Cloner.
Some of the features that make DVD X Copy Platinum an excellent DVD copying product include; the ability to copy all the bonus footage and menus or just the movie, the ability to copy a DVD-9 (a DVD that holds 9 GB) to one disk, the ability to customize the compression, episodic DVD support (e.g. Simpons), and the ability to restore damaged DVDs. DVD X Copy Platinum is also one of the fastest copying and compressing applications available.
One feature that is missing that other products have is the ability to copy your DVD movies to CDs. In other words, you need a DVD burner for it to function. But using a DVD burner with DVD X Copy always delivers superior quality copies. You can save all of the menus and features of your original DVD, and the software compresses the DVD onto one single DVD disk rather than three or four disks that you would normally use with a DVD-ROM and a CD burner. The video and audio resolution in the copied DVD is as perfect as the original.
Once the software is installed on your computer, the DVD copy process is simple and self-explanatory. Just insert the original DVD so it can be decrypted and ripped onto your computer, then insert a blank medium–a blank DVD–it's that simple. To learn all about the terminology and the process by which DVDs are copied, read the help document. The help document is excellent and it leads you step by step through the process.
In order to backup a DVD with DVD X Copy Platinum, you must first download a CSS decryptor. Once you do that, the process is simple and trouble-free.
The quality of the movies we copied using DVD X Copy Platinum is as good as it gets. We didn't notice any significant quality loss even when compressed.
We didn't encounter any problems or errors when we used this product.
If you want DVD copying software that produces great copies, allows you to customize compression, repair damaged DVDs, and if you don't mind downloading a CSS decryptor, this may be the product for you.
