Corel DVD Copy is a good option for converting your DVD movies to formats other than just DVD. You can convert it to Divx or VCD and copy to a CD-R or DVD. Or, you can just copy your entire DVD movie including menus and bonus material to a DVD-R. Corel DVD Copy also has the ability to copy and burn HD video, usually captured using a high definition camcorder, on to a standard DVD. However, you can only put about 15 minutes of HD material on a DVD.

Corel DVD Copy does not have CSS decryption capabilities and does not respond well to third party decryptors or rippers it is probably best used for home movies.

Corel also offers an upgraded version DVD Copy Plus that has the ability to convert video to play on iPod, PSP and Zune. For more information go to, Corel DVD Copy 6 Plus.

Feature Set:   Excellent

Some of the key features of Corel DVD Copy include the ability to copy all the menus, subtitles, bonus features, the ability to copy your DVD movie to CD-Rs and the ability to combine multiple movies to one disc. There is multiple format support for Divx HD, MPEG2 HD and H.264 HD. Additionally, you can make disc images.

DVD Copy also includes a disc utility that lets you make on-the-fly or one-click copies. This is handy if all you want to do is make a 1:1 copy of the DVD in your drive.

Although Corel claims to have the ability to compress a DVD9 to a DVD5, we were unable to find this feature in the program. When we placed a Dual Layer DVD in the drive and selected “Entire Movie,” the progress bar indicated we needed two discs. Additionally, the help contents online or within the program were incomplete in that they don't explain how this feature works.

Also, Corel DVD Copy does not include a CSS decryptor and does not work with third-party decryptors. This software is not recommended if you want to copy studio produced DVD movies.

Ease of Use:   Excellent

Corel DVD Copy has a simple and clean interface. However, we found its simplicity to be its Achilles Heel. There is no button for advanced options and some of the terminology is confusing like using the word “Profile” for the target media or format.

Additionally, we found it difficult when trying to copy an encrypted DVD. You have to use a separate ripper, save the movie to your hard drive and then use Corel to burn. This program is not designed for copying protected DVDs.

Ease of Installation:   Excellent

Like most software Corel DVD Copy is easy to install. You will have to reboot after installation but this isn’t uncommon for most software. Corel will recommend you install additional software upon installation. All of the software suggestions are decent programs, just be careful of what you click yes to. You may already have similar applications already installed.

We did find that our test computers needed to install some additional Microsoft Framework applications. This was probably the longest part of the process. It is likely that most people will have to make these additional installations.

Quality of Copy:   Excellent

The copy we made looked pretty good. The picture was decent and the audio and video was synced. We can't say there was anything particularly spectacular about it, but you won't really notice degradation of quality unless you play it on a very large screen.

Program Stability:   Excellent

We encountered a few problems while using this product. The software did not respond well when we were using our computer for other functions that required a lot of ram. And sometimes it had difficulty responding when we placed an encrypted DVD into the drive.

One of the computers the program was installed on received a lot of error messages, but the others worked just fine.

Summary:

Corel DVD Copy is a good option for those looking to get their home videos on disc especially if you have an HD camcorder. However, if you are looking for something that will copy Hollywood DVDs see TopTenREVIEWS #1 program, DVD Cloner.
